One of the main factors in maintaining healthy tresses is moisture. Because without it, hair can become brittle and break off. Especially for people with textured or curly hair like myself. Because as we all know, natural hair needs moisture to flourish.
And so for me, I struggled to find a good moisture balance routine for years. But after a few trials and errors, it all worked out.
I was able to find ways to keep my hair hydrated. So, to know my best curly hair tips for healthy and moisturized hair, continue to read along.
6 Of my Best Curly Hair Tips For Moisturized Curls
1. Use A good shampoo.
For shampoo, you need to pick one that cleanses your hair thoroughly. Now, I know in the natural hair community, using sulfates is taboo. But as for me, I do not mind because I want to get my hair clean.
Typically, I will start with a clarifying shampoo as my first wash. And for my second wash, I will use a hydrating one.
Doing this routine ensures my hair is clean and moisturized. Because to properly moisturize the hair, you need to have a blank canvas.

2. Have a deep conditioning routine.
Depending on your hair texture and the state of it, you may not need to deep condition often. For some, it can be weekly, bi-weekly, or once a month.
For me, I prefer weekly -which is every time I wash my hair. And so, by doing this routine, my curls and coils stay moisturized for the entire week.
Also, another thing I do is use heat. To better help the products absorb into the hair strands. So, if you have low-porosity hair like me, I highly recommend adding this to your routine.
You can use a hooded dryer, heating cap, blow dryer attachment piece, or hair steamer.

3. Use less heat.
Now, I am not saying to avoid heat forever. And never use it again. But if you want your hair healthy, less heat is best. Since hair heating tools can damage the hair if used excessively. Or any form of direct heat.
So instead of reaching for the flat iron, wand curl, or blow dryer, do a heatless hairstyle or air dry.

4. Use the right products for your hair type.
One of the issues I had with my hair was finding the right products. During the early stages of my natural hair journey, I spent lots of time envying other people’s hair texture. Rather than appreciating my hair for what it was.
But once I took the time to learn my hair porosity, I found what worked for me. And so, remember, do not be afraid to experiment with products to see what fits.
5. Drink enough water.
Since water makes up almost 25% of each hair strand, drinking enough water is beneficial. To help maintain a healthy body.

6. Protect your hair at night.
One thing I learned early on about textured hair is you can not sleep with it unprotected. That said, invest in a satin pillowcase or a hair bonnet.
Especially if you are like me and move a lot while sleeping. So, to avoid friction, which can lead to frizz, put something on your hair.

Thanks for this, so much great advice!
I use a satin pillow and love it for the benefits to my hair AND it’s cooling factor.
Thanks for sharing! As a naturalista myself, I’m still trying to get better at drinking a gallon of water a day. There’s room for improvement in my moisturizing routine as well😆
