In March 2014, I landed my first interview with Andrea Lewis, best known for her role as Hazel on the TV teen show Degrassi: The Next Generation. For as long as I can remember, I have always been a big fan of the show.
And so the fact that I got this opportunity for my blog made it all worthwhile.
So, to read the full interview along with how I landed it in the first place, keep reading along.
How did I land my interview with a former Degrassi cast member?
While on Twitter one day, I sent her a tweet -feeling anxious, I kept thinking, will she respond to my tweet or not?
But to my amazement, she did, and the rest is history -which shows you never know what will happen until you try.
Q&A With Andrea Lewis
Q: How did you get started acting?
I was blessed to have been approached by a casting director when I was a toddler when my mom and I were in the mall.
Thinking I was cute enough to do baby modeling, she gave my mom her card -after thinking it over for a while, my mom took a leap of faith and called the casting director.
From then on, I started doing commercials and print ads.
Because I liked it so much as a kid, I continued to stay in the business -eventually leading me to book more TV and film roles.
Q: Influences or people that inspired you?
For the most part, I would say my mother -who has been my biggest supporter and inspiration for believing in my dreams and living the life I want!
Besides that, I’m also inspired by all kinds of art since I’m a huge art lover – whether it be film, music, dance, or anything else, I can find art anywhere.
Q: Do you ever find it challenging to re-invent yourself as an actress?
No, because as an actress, your job is to get into different characters, and so by doing that, you’re constantly “re-inventing” yourself.
As a person, I’m always looking to better myself because I’m constantly growing and improving. After all, I am not the same as I was last year.
Q: Besides Degrassi, what other projects are you currently working on?
I’ve done a lot of work outside of Degrassi on TV and film, such as the Disney movie, “Cadet Kelly” HBO’s “Soul Food” Nickelodeon’s “Spectacular” Showtimes “Moccasin Flats” and most recently “A Very Larry Christmas” for BET due out in Christmas 2014 and my web series “Black Actress” written by and starring myself and produced by Issa Rae and Tatyana Ali.
Q: Is There A Motto Or Message You Live By?
My 2014 Motto is Find A Way.
You have to find a way to do whatever it is you want to do!
In conclusion…
So, did you watch Degrassi growing up? And if so, who was your favorite character from the show? Was it Andrea, Drake, Paige, JT, or anyone else? If any of those names ring a bell, leave comments below. Talk to you guys next time, and have a wonderful day, everyone.
