How I Discovered This Cozy Philly Diner
That morning, I headed downtown for jury duty. Only to find out I had arrived too late and needed to reschedule. Annoyed and hungry, I stepped back outside, unsure of what to eat.
While scrolling through my cell phone for local breakfast recommendations, Down Home Diner popped up. Seeing that I was already near Reading Terminal Market, it felt like it was worth a shot.
Once inside, I wandered around in circles for nearly 10 minutes before I located the diner. Once I found a seat at the bar, I looked over the menu while my waitress brought me a glass of water.

Still unsure of what to order, I asked my waitress for suggestions—and she immediately pointed me toward a customer favorite.
Based on her recommendation, I ordered Uncle Bunk’s Breakfast Bargain, a popular choice for anyone looking for a classic homestyle breakfast.
The meal includes eggs, two buttermilk pancakes, and breakfast meat—but I made a few swaps:

- I got french toast instead of pancakes
- Scrambled eggs
- Sausage patty as my breakfast meat
Honest Review Of Down Home Diner
When my plate arrived, I was impressed right away. Everything looked fresh, warm, and beautifully plated—simple but inviting.
Here’s my quick breakdown:
golden brown French toast
Fluffy, airy, and lightly sweetened without being overwhelming.
creamy scrambled eggs
Cooked perfectly, soft and flavorful.
Down Home Diner Sausage Patty
Nicely seasoned and a good match for the rest of the meal.

Overall, my experience was nice. The staff was friendly and helpful, which is always a bonus when visiting a diner.
