For anyone who has lost or got fired from a job, it’s a devastating experience – you start to stress out about bills, expenses, and how your life changed overnight -and what your next step will be.
Recently, I lost my job at Starbucks. A company I started working for in 2019 out of desperation to pay off my credit card debt.
So, for this week’s podcast episode, I discuss my new life of unemployment. How I have been taking the news and ways I try to remain positive, along with a piece of advice for anyone in a similar situation.
Do you regret getting fired from your job?
When it comes to the question, I have a split answer.
From day one, my manager and I did not see eye to eye. Her poor management skills and how she engages with customers and staff put a bad taste in my mouth.
And so, in some ways, I feel like the universe is doing me a favor.
As for my regret, I regret the reason I lost my job. Over the years, I have struggled to be on time for a job -and unfortunately, in the past, it has cost me a job or two.
So, losing my job for something like this in my 30s is not a good feeling.
How have I been staying positive?
One of the things that has helped me is reflecting on my experience. Because moments when I get sad, I try to look at it as “maybe losing my job is a stepping stone for a better future.
Or is this a sign from the universe that I need to work harder on my blog and podcast? Because for some reason, I always had an excuse for not putting out new content. Either tired from work or pure laziness, a part of me felt like I needed more time.
Another thing I have been doing is applying to new jobs every day. To help maintain a productive routine. And that way, I will not let my negative thoughts get me down.
In conclusion…
Though losing my job sucks, the best I can do is move forward -rather than dwell on the past.
So, until my next blog post, have a great day. And remember that when one door closes, another door will open.
